Cerebral Embolic Filtration Device

There is a new ICD-10-PCS code for cerebral embolic filtration (or protection) devices. CEPDs are intraoperative tools used during Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) to capture and remove embolic debris (calcium, tissue) before it reaches the brain, reducing stroke risk. The SENTINEL CPS is one FDA-cleared device. The new ICD-10-PCS code can be found under the Extracorporeal or Systemic Assistance and Performance Table, Assistance, Function ‘Cerebral Embolic Filtration’ and finally the Qualifier to represent what type of CEPD – Single Capture Filter, Dual Capture Filter, Single Deflection Filter or Extracorporeal Flow Reversal Circuit.
