Can you share your journey from bedside nursing to your current role, and what inspired you to transition into the business side of healthcare?

My journey in healthcare started off as Respiratory therapist for 15 years before I decided I wanted to pursue a career in nursing and that was 24 years ago. I have always been caretaker by nature, and I loved every moment of taking care of my patients and sharing in their healing journey. Fourteen years ago, I stepped away from bedside and took a new venture into the CDI world and it has been an adventure to watch the transition of the specialty grow and evolve with such a different impact into the health care world. To be able to give back in any compacity of nursing is a joy I will never regret.

How do your experiences as a frontline nurse influence your approach to consulting and decision-making in our organization?

My vast career experience as a frontline nurse allows me to take those experiences and utilize them to grow and enhance my knowledge base
while being flexible and open to new ideas.

What advice would you give to nurses considering a move into leadership or business roles within healthcare, and how can they leverage their clinical expertise?

I would advise anyone one wanting to move into leadership to first never forget the role as a clinical nurse when considering some of the decisions you will make. Lead by example by modeling your expectations. Being a great communicator, conflict resolution is essential.

At e4health, we pride ourselves on our WEGROW values (Embrace change, fun, & learning, Get Stuff Done (GSD), Respectfully listen, challenge, & support each other, Our PEOPLE make the difference, and Win/Win. What value resonates most with you?

I believe in teamwork and win, win so if I have valued information that can enhance the department through my experience I believe in sharing. One of the things I do miss about being in house is bouncing ideas off each other while review cases and I would help working with difficult MDs with skills from my marketing career.

We all have unique experiences that shape who we are. Is there an interesting skill or experience from your background that your colleagues might be surprised to learn about?

People are surprised when I share that I am a Respiratory therapist.

When you’re not focused on your work at e4health, what activities or interests do you pursue that help you recharge and find balance?

I love playing with my happy golden doodle and a day on the water fishing.
