Diabetes in Remission
A code for Diabetes in Remission is available for use starting with October 1, 2025 discharges/visits. Code E11A (Type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications in remission) will be valid. People with type 2 diabetes should be considered “in remission” after sustaining normal blood glucose (sugar) levels for three months or more. There is still a lot of uncertainty around how long remission will last and what factors are associated with a relapse. And of course, we, as coders, are only coding diabetes, in remission if documented by the provider. Do not code based on lab values alone.
