Lymphovascular Invasion (2Q 2025 Coding Clinic)
The patient underwent an outpatient radical prostatectomy with pelvic LN dissection for prostate cancer.
The final diagnosis listed on the pathology report indicates lymphovascular invasion; however, it also confirmed that no tumor is present in the lymph nodes.
Since the pathology report stated that there was no tumor present in the lymph nodes, no additional code is assigned for the pathological finding of lymphovascular invasion.
This is a clinical finding found on the pathology report that is used as an indicator to assess the aggressiveness of the patient’s malignancy and is not considered a metastatic site.
It is recommended to query the attending physician on the Pathology findings and see if he/she considers this a ‘metastatic site’.
