Hello colleague,
It’s hard to believe we’re already welcoming October! After a busy September and celebrating CDI Week, this is a natural time to reflect on our work and how we continue building on it.
The CDI landscape is evolving quickly. While strong clinical documentation remains the foundation, teams are navigating increasing quality and risk-adjustment expectations, evolving denial strategies, new technology and AI capabilities, staffing challenges, and growing pressure to demonstrate program value.
Technology, data, and audits can help identify opportunities, but meaningful improvement still depends on knowledgeable CDI professionals who apply clinical judgment, ask the right questions, collaborate with providers, and turn information into action.
As we enter the final months of 2026, consider your own program: What’s working well? Where do your data, audits, and team members suggest opportunities? Are your metrics telling the full story of your program’s value?
We’ll explore that last question during our next e4health CDI Roundtable, “CDI Quality: Are You Measuring the Right Things? Moving Beyond Productivity to Prove Program Value,” on Wednesday, November 18, at 12:00 p.m. EST. Join us as we look beyond productivity to examine quality, effectiveness, and meaningful program impact.
Continuous improvement can start small: revisiting a metric, refining a process, or providing targeted education. And since it’s October, strong processes and proactive auditing can also make missed documentation opportunities, compliance concerns, and unexpected denials a little less scary! 🎃
We hope this month’s CDI Insider offers practical insights that spark ideas and support your program’s growth. Whether you’re evaluating quality, preparing for 2027, addressing staffing or operational challenges, or identifying education needs, the e4health team welcomes the opportunity to connect and collaborate.
Wishing you a wonderful fall, a Happy Halloween, and more treats than tricks! Enjoy the October edition of the CDI Insider.
It was wonderful connecting with so many of you at AHIMA26 in San Antonio! The e4health Oasis offered a chance to recharge and talk CDI, from shared challenges to opportunities to strengthen documentation and support our teams. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and made those conversations so meaningful.
Our CDI Leadership Team collaborates each month to bring you a focused CDI Tip, designed to help you strengthen your skills and stay current in our ever-evolving field. We also partner closely with our coding colleagues to ensure each tip delivers insightful, accurate guidance that supports clinical integrity and drives documentation excellence.

Our Next CDI Leadership Roundtable is Scheduled!
💡Query rates and chart review counts show how busy your CDI team is. They don't show whether documentation actually improved, whether the coding held up, or whether the program earned its budget. Join our CDI experts for a practical look at what a real CDI quality program measures, and how to stand one up without adding headcount.

💡 We recently held our September CDI Leadership Roundtable: Are Your Queries Compliant? Insights from Real-World Query Audits. If you missed it, you can still watch the recording and earn free ACDIS CEUs in our e4health IQ Education Center.
Our e4health CDI Roundtables have become a big hit within the CDI community. Attendees consistently share how much they enjoy hearing the roundtable discussions and insights from our panelists. If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please email me. We would be happy to add you to our panelist list and share upcoming topics so you can participate in the discussions that interest you!
