Devices Include:
Left ventricular assist device (LVAD):
Most common type. Surgically implanted in the heart and takes over the work of the left ventricle, one of the heart’s two lower chambers.
Right ventricular assist device (RVAD):
Pumps blood from your right ventricle (or atrium) into your pulmonary artery and to the lungs.
Biventricular assist device (bi-VAD):
LVAD and RVAD used together to help your heart function better when both the right and left pumping chambers of your heart are failing.
Intraaortic balloon pump (IABP):
